Lake Lyman is located on the Middle Tyger River. The lake is a 1.4 billion gallon reservoir that stores water for subsequent release and capture at the downstream Lyman Low Head Dam. SJWD pumps raw water from the Lyman Low Head Dam to their adjacent surface water treatment facilities. Lyman Lake has approximately 350 acres that can be used for recreation. The lake can be accessed from our park (200 Lyman Lodge Rd) where we have two ramps and parking for approximately 50 vehicles. There is a restroom by the warden’s office for the general public. Also located at the site is a public fishing pier and a lodge that can be rented for events by the public. The lodge will safely hold 100 people. There are 17 tables and 100 chairs. To rent the facility or check availability, please contact 864-439-4423. Boating is by permit only and permits can be obtained from our SJWD Water District customer service department located on Highway 29 in Wellford SC. Permits can be obtained Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. We allow up to a 90 hp outboard engine or a 135 hp inboard engine. The fee for the watercraft is $60 a year for Spartanburg County residents, $120 a year for all other in county instate residents, and $240 a year for out of state boaters. Permits are valid from January 1 – December 31 of each calendar year.
