Downsize to a 1/4 oz black/blue jig with a craw trailer and pitch to every piece of cover.
THE CALL:THE CALL:** Fish the morning bite from first light through 9:30 AM, targeting the wind-blown north and northwest banks with a spinnerbait and a chatterbait. The minor solunar window (8:10–9:40 AM) and pre-front conditions will fire up active largemouth before thunderstorms and 49 mph winds shut it down.
WHY IT WINS:
- Water temp is 63°F and rising fast (up 12° recently) – fish are feeding aggressively in the pre-spawn/spawn transition.
- Steady pressure now, but thunderstorms and high winds arrive later today – the pre-frontal trigger pushes fish to chase reaction baits this morning.
- Minor solunar at 8:10 AM aligns with low light and building wind (14 mph by 7 AM), creating ideal conditions for covering water.
START HERE: Focus on the north and northwest shoreline – the wind is SSW now, so those banks get the most wave action, oxygen, and baitfish. Look for the first points, laydowns, and any hard cover (rock, stumps) along those banks. The natural imagery shows scattered timber and a few shallow flats – hit the windward side of those.
THROW THIS:
- Primary: 3/8 oz white/chartreuse spinnerbait with double willow blades. Burn it just under the surface, then kill it over cover. Retrieve fast enough to feel the blades thumping.
- Backup: 1/2 oz black/blue chatterbait with a matching trailer. Slow-roll it through the same cover when the spinnerbait draw stops.
BEST WINDOW: 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The minor solunar peaks at 8:10 AM, but the low-light start and building wind (14 mph by 7 AM) extend the window. Be on the water by 6:00 AM. By 10 AM the wind will be howling and storms will move in – the bite will shut down.
NEXT MOVE: If the windward banks are unfishable by 9 AM (boat control issues), slide to the lee-side pockets on the south shore with calm water and deeper cover (docks, brush piles) will hold fish that haven’t moved out yet. Downsize to a 1/4 oz black/blue jig with a craw trailer and pitch to every piece of cover.
