Green River Lake Fishing Report
Use a deep-diving crankbait (sexy shad) crawled into the drop, pausing when it contacts structure.
Fish the northern third of the lake now. Post-spawn largemouth are stacked on the warm, stained channel bends and creek mouths where the 71°F water meets the first break. Throw a 1/2oz chatterbait on the major solunar bite, then switch to topwater near dark.
WHY IT WINS
- Water temp 71°F puts bass in aggressive post-spawn mode; thermal imagery shows a persistent warm pocket in the north that concentrates bait and predators along the interface with cooler 60°F basin water.
- High turbidity from northern inflows demands a loud, vibrating lure—chatterbait or heavy spinnerbait will get the reaction bite in stained water.
- Major solunar period 1:54 PM–4:24 PM peaks right now, overlapping with light southeast wind (4-6 mph) that pushes bait against the north shore.
- Rising pressure pre-front shortens the strike window, but the incoming thunderstorm tomorrow signals a pre-frontal feed. Fish active cover tight to structure before the front arrives.
START HERE Motor to the first large cove on the north shore just inside the mouth of a feeder creek arm. Look for a visible color line where brown-stained inflow meets clearer main-lake water. Position on the warm side of that edge, casting parallel to the bank in 6-10 feet. Target any laydowns, stumps, or chunk rock on the channel swing.
THROW THIS Primary: 1/2oz chatterbait (chartreuse/white) with a 4″ paddle tail trailer in sungill or pale shad. Retrieve at a medium clip with a sharp pause and rip every 5-6 cranks. The pause triggers followers. Backup: 3/8oz finesse jig (PB&J) with a small craw trailer. Crawl it slowly down the channel drop in 8-14 feet if you get short strikes or followers on the moving bait.
BEST WINDOW Now until 4:30 PM — the major solunar bite plus the beginning of the pre-frontal wind shift. Second window: 7:00 PM to dark, as clouds thicken and wind strengthens to 8-12 mph. Switch to a walking topwater (bone) on the same points and flats if the topwater bite turns on at low light.
NEXT MOVE If the northern pockets are dead after 45 minutes, slide to the mid-lake main channel points. Fish the 45‑degree bends where the sediment layer drops off and bass suspend on the first ledge in 15-20 feet. Use a deep-diving crankbait (sexy shad) crawled into the drop, pausing when it contacts structure.
