Miller Lake Fishing Report
Fish slow with a Ned rig or dropshot on the same north shore points but in 8–12 ft.
THE CALL: Bass are biting on a pre-spawn staging pattern right now, with walleye as a solid secondary option. Hit the wind-blown north shore points first with a jerkbait from 6:30 to 9:00 AM.
WHY IT WINS:
- Water temp is 54°F and rising (recent readings up 7.8°). That’s prime pre-spawn range – bass are feeding up before moving shallow.
- New moon (solunar 5/5) and clear skies mean low-light windows are critical. The first 2–3 hours of daylight are your best shot.
- Wind is building from the WSW (12 mph now, gusts 23 mph by 9 AM). That pushes bait and activates fish on windward banks.
START HERE: The north shore points – specifically the first rocky point east of the main boat ramp. It catches the WSW wind, has a quick drop to 12–15 ft, and the warming trend has pulled fish up from deeper basins. Work the 6–10 ft break where rock meets gravel.
THROW THIS:
- Primary: #5 or #6 suspending jerkbait in silver/blue or perch. Long pauses – 8–12 seconds. Cast parallel to the break, twitch-twitch-pause.
- Backup: 1/4 oz chartreuse/white spinnerbait with double willow blades. Burn it just under the surface on the windiest banks.
- Walleye option: 1/8 oz jig with a minnow or paddle tail, slow-hopping the same breaks in low light.
BEST WINDOW: 6:30–9:00 AM. Wind is manageable (5–10 mph), light is low, and the new moon has fish feeding aggressively before the sun gets high and the wind cranks up to 36 mph by afternoon.
NEXT MOVE: If the jerkbait bite dies after 45 minutes, slide to the first protected cove on the south side (lee of the wind) and slow down with a 3/8 oz black/blue jig and craw trailer. Pitch to laydowns and the inside weed edge in 4–8 ft.
MULTI-DAY OUTLOOK:
- Today (Sat): Best day. Clear, rising temp, manageable morning wind. Focus on windward points.
- Sunday: Rain and 54 mph winds. Fish only protected coves and the lee side of islands. Use a heavy jig or Texas rig to punch wind chop. Bite will be short – hit it from 7–9 AM.
- Monday: Pressure rising, winds dropping. Fish slow with a Ned rig or dropshot on the same north shore points but in 8–12 ft. Morning window still best.
