Situated between Seattle and Bellevue, Lake Washington is the state’s second largest lake and the site of numerous Seattle-based activities, from the SeaFair hydroplane races every August to dinner cruises year-round from Argosy Cruises. Seward Park at the south end of the lake features a perimeter path for bicycles and pedestrians that follows the waterfront with sweeping views of the lake, as well as several swimming spots and kayak launches. The University of Washington operates a boat rental facility right on the lake (in Union Bay) where you can rent canoes and rowboats by the hour. On select Sundays from May through September, you can participate in Bicycle Sunday – bicycle or walk along Lake Washington Boulevard south of Mount Baker Beach to Seward Park’s entrance. If this is your first visit to Seattle, you might want to embark on the Lake Washington Cruise by Argosy. This 1-1/2 hour tour includes live narration pointing out some fascinating history as well as views of Mt. Rainier and homes of some of Seattle’s rich and famous.
