Lake Information

Quail Creek Reservoir is a popular recreation area located in Washington County, Utah, that was completed in 1985. The reservoir was built to provide irrigation and culinary water to the St. George area, and most of the water in the reservoir is diverted from the Virgin River and transported through a buried pipeline. The Quail Creek Dam is formed by two dams: the main dam, which is an earth-fill embankment dam, and the south dam, which is a roller-compacted concrete dam. The south dam was constructed to replace the original earth-fill dam that failed in the early hours of New Year's Day in 1989. The reservoir has a surface area of 590 acres and a maximum depth of 120 feet, making it cold enough to sustain stocked rainbow trout, bullhead catfish, and crappie. Largemouth bass and bluegill, which are also stocked, thrive in the warmer, upper layers of the reservoir. The state park has become a popular destination for fishing, boating, and swimming. Anglers can fish from the shore or from boats, which can be rented from the park marina. There is also a fish cleaning station located at the park. In addition to fishing, Quail Creek Reservoir offers a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors. The park has a sandy beach area that is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day and has a designated swimming area that is monitored by lifeguards. The park also has picnic areas with tables and barbecue grills, as well as a playground for children. Hiking trails and mountain biking trails are available nearby. Quail Creek Reservoir is located at an elevation of 3,300 feet, which provides stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The park is open year-round, but some facilities are only available during certain times of the year. Visitors are encouraged to check with the park before planning their trip to ensure that all facilities are open and available. Overall, Quail Creek Reservoir is a beautiful and popular recreation area that provides a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy.
