Surveyor Lake, located in Wayne County, Utah, is a serene, high-elevation alpine lake nestled within the rugged landscapes of Boulder Mountain. In 2014, a public committee was formed to address these challenges, consisting of local residents, anglers, and representatives from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. Together, the committee developed a comprehensive management plan for 82 lakes, ponds, and reservoirs across Boulder Mountain, including Surveyor Lake. The primary goal of the plan is to restore the population of trophy brook trout and enhance the overall quality and diversity of the fisheries in the region. As part of the management plan, 35 percent of the lakes on Boulder Mountain, including Surveyor Lake, are specifically managed for trophy brook trout. These efforts include a range of strategies designed to support the health and sustainability of the fishery, ensuring that the lake continues to provide high-quality fishing experiences for both seasoned anglers and newcomers. In addition, 83 percent of the lakes in the region, including Surveyor Lake, feature a trophy fish component, which enhances the diversity and appeal of the local fish populations. With the ongoing management efforts in place, Surveyor Lake is expected to continue offering excellent opportunities for anglers who appreciate both the thrill of the catch and the beauty of a remote, alpine fishing environment.
